Super Eagles lifts 2025 Unity Cup
..As Chelle wins first trophy
The Super Eagles of Nigeria emerged champions of the 2025 Unity Cup, following a 5-4 penalty win over Jamaica at the Brentford’s Gtext Community Stadium in England on Saturday.
The victory also hands Super Eagles head coach Éric Sékou Chelle, is first trophy as Super Eagles manager as focus shift to the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Both teams played out a 2-2 draw in regulation time as Jamaica came from behind twice to force the game into penalty.
Moses Simon put the Super Eagles of Nigeria ahead in the 9th minute following good works by Cyriel Dessers, but that lead didn’t last for long before Jamaica drew level through Kaheim Dixon in the 12th minute.
The teams went into the break leveled at 1-1.
Upon resumption for the second half, the Super Eagles once again went ahead in the 53rd minute through Samuel Chukwueze.
The lead only lasted for ten minutes before Jamaica leveled again with Jon Russell.
Russell found space in the Nigerian box to head the leveller unchallenged to force the game into penalty kicks.
Nigeria scored all five penalty kicks, while Jamaica missed its 4th penalty kick to hand Nigeria a 5-4 victory.
Debutant Uche Chrisantus scored the decisive spot kick for Nigeria during the shoot out.
Kelechi Iheanacho, Moses Simon, Tolu Arokodare and Bruno Onyemaechi all scored their spot kicks.
Both Nigeria and Jamaica are the founders of the Unity Cup, an international tournament, which is being held after more than two
