The match served as a preparatory fixture for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), set to take place in Morocco from July 5 to 26.

The Super Falcons are gearing up for their 13th consecutive appearance at the tournament, where they are drawn in Group C alongside Tunisia, Algeria, and Botswana.

Head coach Justine Madugu praised the team’s performance, describing the victory as a timely psychological boost. “This win gives us good momentum going into WAFCON,” he said. “We’re building confidence and cohesion ahead of a tough group stage.”

Nigeria, the most successful team in the tournament’s history, will be aiming to secure their 10th WAFCON title.

The Falcons previously claimed the trophy in 1998, 2000, 2002, 2006, 2010, 2014, 2016, 2018, and 2019. They also won in 1991 and 1995, when the competition served as World Cup qualifiers rather than a formal tournament.
